Fringing with Children

Not all shows that are rated ‘All Ages’ are suitable for young audiences. Below is a guide to give you pointers on on what shows are a good fit for families with young children (or are not suitable but advertised as All Ages). This information is provided by the artists to give a guide, but we encourage you to use your judgement on what you deem suitable for your child.

Relaxed Performances

These performances welcome audience members who may benefit from a less restrictive audience environment, including (but not limited to) those with sensory processing conditions, Autism, intellectual disability, or with young children. Relaxed performances have a relaxed attitude to noise and movement, including reducing extreme sound and lighting effects, leaving house lights on at a low level, and allowing you to come and go. The following shows have the following relaxed performance measures.

Rocko & Nakotarelaxed performance elements (no loud sounds, sudden or bright lighting changes). Suitable for young children.

The ADHD ProjectHouse lights will always be slightly lit. Very few lighting/sound cues – nothing extreme. Suitable for ages 12 years and up.

The Great Little ShowThis show has relaxed performance measures and welcomes patrons who may benefit from a less restrictive audience environment, including a relaxed attitude to noise and movement, reduced extreme sound and lighting effects (no blackouts, strobes, projections or unsettling lighting changes), leaving house lights on at a low level, and allowing patrons to come and go as needed. Suitable for young children, babes in arms and all ages.

Love For Sale – no extreme sound or lighting effects. Patrons are in close proximity to speakers (small performance space) but sound level is low. Adults only.

Death – A Romantic Comedy relaxed attitude to noise and movement including reducing extreme sound and lighting effects. Adults only.

The ADHD Project – This show has relaxed performance measures including a relaxed attitude to noise and movement, reduced extreme sound and lighting effects (no blackouts, strobes, projections or unsettling lighting changes), leaving house lights on at a low level, and allowing patrons to come and go as needed.

BLOOD RELATIVE – For the Sept 2, 3:15 show only this show will include relaxed performance measures – house lights up, reduced sound and lights, and audience members can come and go where needed.

Personal Support Workers

Intrepid Theatre is a member of the Access 2 Program and welcomes people with disabilities who are accompanied by a personal support worker. Where a support worker is required, admission to all Victoria Fringe performances and events is free for the support worker and they do not need a Fringe Button. Please advise the box office when you purchase your tickets.

Site E – CRD Square (Government at Fisgard). Note, this show is accessible, but may not be suitable for patrons with reduced mobility. Audiences are walking/ on their feet the entire show.
