2018 OUTstages Line-up
Intrepid Theatre’s OUTstages – a decidedly queer theatre festival – is a week of outrageous stories, surprises, parties and performances from and for the queer community and beyond. This festival has its finger on the pulse of the queer theatre scene and is proud to bring some of the most exciting, daring and thought-provoking performances from across Canada to Victoria June 19-24. This year, we are proud as punch to announce a new partnership with the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre that will see two shows (marked with an *) travel to Duncan as part of their Pride celebrations. Get OUT!
ANNOUNCING THE 2018 FESTIVAL LINEUP:
Hailed as “exceptionally beautiful” (Vancouver Courier), this Jessie-nominated work was written in response to the tragic 2008 murder of Lawrence King, a 15-year-old shot by his male classmate after asking him to be his valentine. Hot off runs in Toronto and Vancouver, this tour marks the 10th anniversary of this horrific, homophobic event. More info from Zee Zee Theatre.
Songs of Resilience, Queer Songbook Orchestra (Toronto)*
Casting a contemporary queer eye on a century’s worth of popular song, the “sensational” Queer Songbook Orchestra explore the LGBTQ backstories and personal narratives that richly populate music of the past several generations. More info & tickets now on sale!
The Audience Choice Award Winner at SummerWorks, Pearle Harbour’s Chautauqua is an immersive extravaganza: part drag, part tragicomedy, part old-time tent revival. The world may be falling apart, but Pearle will show you there’s more that unites us than divides us. More info from Pearle Harbour.
Part biology lesson, part pet therapy session; Animal Medicine explores the experience of a self-diagnosed human. This “one person wounded pride parade” from local performer Eddi Wilson uses music, monologue and movement to dissect what they have learned from a life spent staring in the microscope.
Two new works-in-development from BC playwrights; featuring Lunar Boys by Kai Taddei & Jack Hayes. By donation.
An intimate cabaret of stories, writing, monologues & more from local queer youth. By donation.
The festival schedule, tickets, passes & full show descriptions for 4th Annual OUTstages will be live online on March 6. Tickets to Songs of Resilience are on sale now, get your tickets early as this show is headed for a sell-out!
