Sammie Gough departs Intrepid Theatre

Producer Sammie Gough will leave her position at Intrepid Theatre this month. After working with the company in a marketing and publicity position for several years, Gough moved to Vancouver in 2011, but returned to Victoria and Intrepid Theatre in 2016, taking on the role as Producer, which she has held for the past 6 years. After nearly ten years with the company over these two stints, Gough is moving to a new role at the University of Victoria Island Medical Program.

Gough has Produced the Victoria Fringe Festival, leading the Fringe and guiding Fringe artists through the challenges of the past three years during COVID with incredible care. In addition to her work at the Fringe, Gough has produced UNO Fest, OUTstages, many presentations in the Intrepid Presents Series, and has been a guiding voice for independent artists in the region. She has also served on the board of Wonderheads Theatre, on the EDI committee for the Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals, and maintains an artistic practice with Yarrow Collective, inviting the public to participate in creative acts of public gardening.

“Sammie has been an incredible, steadfast, and committed member of the team; her work has touched all facets of the company, and she will leave her mark on Intrepid, especially her dedication to access and EDI work, and the incredible self-producing resources and artist workshops she stewarded. I want to thank her for her collaborative spirit and her constant care for everyone she encountered, from artists to volunteers to billets to community partners to audiences, especially as we navigated constantly changing parameters for creating theatre and producing festivals. Good luck on the next phase of your career. I can’t wait to see you on the other side of the curtain as an audience member” says Artistic Director Sean Guist.

Managing Director, Julie Haddow, agrees, “Sammie has been a valuable member of the Intrepid Family for many years and will be dearly missed. We wish her the very best with her new position and know she will quickly become a positive addition at her new place of employment.”

Gough says of her time at Intrepid, “I feel incredibly honoured to have worked at Intrepid Theatre over the last 6 years and to be part of the inspiring work the team does. Huge thanks to all the Intrepid crew. I’m so grateful to the community of staff, artists, volunteers, partners and audiences who care so deeply about Intrepid’s programs and festivals. I will carry in my heart with respect all they have taught me as I move on to next career steps.”

Gough has also worked with the Firehall Arts Centre and PuSh International Performing Arts Festival in Vancouver, contracted as a freelance publicist, and holds a degree in journalism. Her work with Yarrow Collective has been encountered at FringeKids and Pacific Opera Victoria’s Voices In Nature Festival.

Gough’s last day at Intrepid Theatre will be October 18.
