It takes a village – thanks for 20 years at The Metro

As we said in our letter to the community, The Metro is more than a space. If you are taking the time to read this, thank you for being a part of The Metro’s history. Thanks to folks such as yourself, The Metro has become a staple for the local indie arts community. More than a church gym painted black, it is a welcoming place where friendships are forged and where diverse artists, art lovers and the simply curious gather to celebrate and participate in creativity of all kinds. The space has hosted thousands of shows and artists, has been the cherished home of our festivals and series programming, and was truly built by community.

The current board and leadership want to say thank you to those who were part of making this space possible in the early 2000s – Artistic Director/Producer Janet Munsil, General Manager Ian Case, Operations & Development Coordinator Nathan Medd, and Production Manager George Scott. We also want to thank the many Intrepid staffers who played a hand in building, growing and caring for this space, as well as the many technicians, FOH Managers, volunteers, and board members who were part of the Metro legacy over the last 20 years.

We are profoundly grateful to the funders and donors who supported the venue and its upgrades.

The Metro was born out of a creative collaboration with our landlords, the Victoria Conservatory of Music, who supported this inventive shared-space lease. If you don’t know, The Metro is used by both organizations year-round – Intrepid Theatre uses the space as a theatre, and The VCM uses the space as a classroom and rehearsal venue. We want to thank the VCM for their partnership that brought contemporary theatre and two decades of Intrepid Theatre to the corner of Quadra and Johnson.
