About the artist
Josh is an Anishinaabe playwright, storyteller, and educator living on Treaty 6 Territory. An active playwright in development at Workshop West Playwrights Theatre, Josh has several projects in development, including The Eyes of Spirits (Workshop West, Citadel Theatre, Native Earth); IN-COR-RI-GI-BLE: The Legend of Thundervoice (Blyth Festival); CIVIL BLOOD: A Treaty Story (Thou Art Here Theatre); and Wolf Runner (Concrete Theatre).

For the past year, Josh has toured Rocko and Nakota: Tales From the Land to 6 Fringe Festivals, Edmonton’s Deep Freeze Festival, The Thousand Faces Festival, and to various schools. In the summer, Josh will perform it at the Blyth Festival. Josh could not be happier to be returning to Victoria for UNO Fest with this show!

As an educator, Josh enjoys working with young minds and engaging them in the creative process. In December, 2018, Josh facilitated and co-directed Ross Sheppard High School’s indigenous production of Side By Side: Our Stories. Josh also teaches at the Citadel Theatre’s Foote Theatre School and Workshop West’s youth playwriting program, #WritesOfPassage. This summer, Josh will teach at Artstrek, Alberta’s largest youth theatre summer camp.

In September, 2019, Josh will begin his MFA in Theatre Practices in Indigenous Storytelling/Playwriting at the University of Alberta. And coming up in development, keep an eye out for Josh’s new one-man indigenous show, TAIY.
