Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Audit

Intrepid Theatre’s EDI Audit: What’s happened so far

In early 2021 Intrepid Theatre began working with Will Shelling from Bakau Consulting on an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion audit. Bakau Consulting is a Vancouver-based equity, inclusion and anti-racism consulting company, with a global, intersectional approach. This audit and the resulting actions will ensure that Intrepid is better equipped to address issues of racism and oppression, and that EDI principles are part of all aspects of Intrepid’s operations.

In the Spring of 2021, Intrepid Theatre began the audit process with a survey of staff, casual employees and board members. Intrepid has started to implement Bakau’s recommendations from this survey, including annual Anti-Oppression Training for artists and volunteers and updating internal policies and practices, while other recommendations are being integrated into Intrepid’s current strategic planning process. At the same time we are also working on a range of initiatives to build accessibility, including an Accessibility Audit and a Victoria Theatre Deaf Engagement Survey (read more here). This past summer, we offered an Anti-Oppression workshop with Will for all staff, board, Fringe staff, volunteers and Fringe artists.

Have your say on Equity, Diversity & Inclusion at Intrepid

As part of the next step, we would like to invite you to have your say on inclusivity at Intrepid by filling out a survey regarding your experience with us. It should take around 10-15 mins to complete. Bakau Consulting is asking those who have engaged with Intrepid Theatre from 2019 onwards to get involved in this survey process.

Your ANONYMOUS feedback in filling out the online survey is hugely valued in helping Bakau make recommendations for meaningful change and improvements. All responses will go direct to Will at Bakau and remain confidential. We will be sharing a summary of the survey results publicly as we move through our EDI audit and planning process.

You can read more about Bakau Consulting here. Additionally, if you have any questions or wish to submit additional comments, they can be emailed to Will (will@bakauconsulting.com).

Please fill out the survey by Thursday November 4. Intrepid Theatre is grateful for your input!
