Hey Girl is a verbatim puppetry piece about Olivia’s own search for cultural connection through her Chinese-Canadian grandmother’s experience through the Second-Sino Japanese War. Her grandmother’s stories are brought to life through various forms of puppetry and recorded tapes of her journey. This true story celebrates Chinese-Canadian resilience and our journey to feel closer to our family history. This filmed version is the first step towards developing a full-length play. This project was developed with the support of Puente Theatre and Intrepid Theatre through the conVERGE Residency Program and the support of the Arts Club Theatre Company’s Bill Millerd Artist Fund.
