La Voix Humaine is a harrowing look at an everyday tragedy and the ways we handle love, loss and betrayal, told through a final phone conversation between a woman and her lover. Adapted from the play by Jean Cocteau, Poulenc’s score is strikingly expressive, and startlingly eloquent as it evokes the unheard half of the conversation. Performed in French with English surtitles.
