Welcome to Dolor! In Pony and Bologna, Pony tries to open a door, and Bologna wants to knock someone out. This silly, absurd play questions the desire to respond “appropriately” to loss. What is grief, what is grieving, and why is it that I am so, so sad- or not? Featuring Pony and Bologna’s best friends; The Grim Reaper, this guy named Bilbert, a literal rock, and more! Pony and Bologna storm the stage like a torrential downpour in a library, because that’s the energy that grief brings to the room. And try as they might to buck off and fight back against the oppressive reality of losing something- anything- they may just need to lose a bit of themselves as well.

About the Artist

Matthew Gordon (any/all) is an emerging playwright and director living and creating on unceded Lekwungen territory. When creating, it’s often very sad people with a funny bone, and challenging the nigh inexpressible with dreamlike explorations that take their primary focus. Their recent playwriting credits include Perspective (2022, SATCo), Imagine That (2020, SATCo), and Regret (2019, LEAP Festival), and their work has been developed by Gay Writes, Theatre SKAM (CPU 2023), and the Arts Club Theatre Company (LEAP I, II). Recent directing credits include Cringe (2024, Pithy Productions), FREE to a Good Home (2024, Pithy Productions), and Project Hollywood (2024, SATCo).
