Artists

At Intrepid Theatre, we foster a vibrant community of independent performing artists. We have an almost 40 year history of supporting local artists, providing opportunities for new work to meet audiences for the first time, and presenting remarkable work from local, national and international artists on our stages.
Opportunities & Applications
In addition to producing the Victoria Fringe Festival, Intrepid Theatre also produces: the OUTstages Festival – a decidedly queer theatre festival; the Incoming Festival – a festival of new works; a year-round Presenting Series; several artist residencies and artist programs; and runs three downtown venues – The Metro Studio and Intrepid Studio, that are home to our festivals and shows and to many community and rental events, and the Festival Hub, a gathering space with hot desks and our admin suite.
We proudly present a wide range of genres of contemporary performance and genre-blurring works. To learn more about how to get involved as an artist, check out our festival applications, residency programs, and space access programs.

Residencies
conVERGE Residency Program
conVERGE is a new residency and mentorship program that supports emerging and early-career Indigenous, Black, and artists of colour to develop new work, offered through a partnership between Intrepid Theatre and Puente Theatre. The program was founded in 2021 by Mercedes Bátiz-Benét, artistic director of Puente Theatre, and Holly Lam, former associate producer at Intrepid Theatre.
OUTstages Residency Program
This residency program is a one year program, that is designed to support one local (Victoria/Lekwungen Territory or Southern Vancouver Island based) artist, company, or collective who self-identify as 2SLGBTQ+, in the research, creation, and development of a new queer work through 2025.
Festivals
The Victoria Fringe Festival
Victoria’s Fringe is one of the oldest on the Canadian Fringe Festival circuit, and is a founding member of the Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals (CAFF) ®. There are Fringe Festivals happening all around the globe – for more info see the World Fringe Network.
In keeping with CAFF’s guiding principles, shows in the Fringe are selected at random (by lottery), are accessible to all artists and audiences, and 100% of the ticket price you pay is returned directly to the artists you choose to see.

Incoming: a festival of new work
Incoming Festival is the newest festival from Intrepid Theatre, featuring an eclectic and electric programming of brand new work from artists from across the country and right here at home. There’s theatre, puppetry, cabaret, and free workshops at our two downtown venues. It’s a festival of premieres – world premieres, BC premieres, and Victoria premieres!
OUTstages: a decidedly queer theatre festival
BC’s first dedicated queer theatre festival, OUTstages launched in the summer of 2015, following hot on the high heels of Victoria Pride Week. Originally, OUTstages ran during Pride season, but now heats up the winter with hot queer programming, running in January/February. This festival has its finger on the pulse of the queer theatre scene and is proud to bring some of the most exciting, daring and thought-provoking performances and queer artists to Victoria every season.
