Intrepid Theatre

The Métis Story Box is a new play exploring being Métis. The play looks at the history of the Métis people which is largely the history of Canada. It is about what people remember and what they forget. The play asks us to question the stories we tell ourselves about who we are and where we come from regardless of our backgrounds.

We say, “Je me souviens” and “Jamais je ne t’oublierai,” but we don’t remember and we are encouraged to forget. The play is about Aboriginal issues, how these issues are presented to the public, what information is shared and what is not. The characters in the play begin as children, move through various experiences, and arrive at seeing life differently after exploring Métis and Aboriginal stories and how these stories are expressed in Canadian media.

What happens when you are told to go up on a hill and scout for buffalo, but when you come down everything is different? And who can you talk to about it? What happens next is one of the stories from the Métis Story Box.
