Part of our Metro Studio After Dark Series, this New Works Cabaret features short new works, and works-in-development from local multidisciplinary artists. Full of new stories, and fresh perspectives, these three new, short works blend genres and take you on a wild ride.

March 5 line-up: TJ Dawe, Ingrid Hansen, Nicolle Nattrass

This performance has ASL interpretation. ASL priority seating is available.

Tickets are by donation, with a suggested $10 donation; 50% of all ticket sales will be donated to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society.

About the artists:

 

Nicolle Nattrass Currently based in Lantzville BC, Nicolle is grateful to live, work and create on the unceded territory of the Snaw’naw’as Mustimuxw people. A Jessie nominated actor( CAEA), playwright (member of the Playwrights Guild of Canada) and dramaturg who has served as National Forum Rep for PGC from 2015- 2019. She was also Artistic Associate for Theatre One’s Emerging Voices, from 2013-2021 programming 3 new plays for development per year, casting the plays as director for workshop/ staged reading and working closely with the playwright as dramaturge. 

She is no stranger to the Fringe festival or self-producing scene. She has taught workshops for Theatre BC on Solo Show, Auditions & Monologues as well as being a Juror for various playwriting competitions. Suddenly 50 is her third solo show, having spent the last 4 years performing, Mamahood: Bursting into Light and in 2019, debuted her work as a Director in a new one woman play, Shield Maiden at the United Solo festival in New York. TJ Dawe is a UVic theatre grad, and has performed at the Victoria Fringe and UNO Festival many times, with such shows as Medicine, A Canadian Bartender at Butlin’s and The Slipknot. He co-created and directed The One Man Star Wars Trilogy with Charles Ross. He runs an online course on how to create a solo show. He’s recently been publishing humour articles and co-hosts The Enneagram in a Movie podcast. You can find out about all of his projects at www.tjdawe.ca.

Ingrid Hansen/SNAFU Westcoast company SNAFU creates challenging, meaningful, freakish and free artistic spaces that share space, celebrate all bodies, and cultivate delight. Artist Ingrid Hansen has toured Canada with five-star shows Interstellar Elder, Little Orange Man, Kitt & Jane. Behind bars, Hansen and SNAFU collaborate with William Head on Stage Prison Theatre Company, where incarcerated artists perform for public audiences inside the prison gym. On television, Ingrid puppeteered a magical talking rock, a talking bush, and the monstrous matriarch ‘Ma Gorg’ on Henson’s new Fraggle Rock reboot, as well as a lead character on Sesame Workshop’s Emmy-Award-Winning series Helpsters (AppleTV+.). @snafudance @iamingridhansen www.snafudance.com/contact

Accessibility:: Please indicate any accessibility needs, including wheelchair accessible seating or if you require seating with no stairs, in the provided field. We will do our best to assign seating that works for you and get in touch if we have any questions. There is limited ground-level seating (4 tables). Most tables are on tiered risers accessed up stairs.

Please note: The audience capacity is less than 50% of the venue seating capacity for The Metro Studio. Single seats are spaced out and fixed to the floor, and are not able to be moved together.

Masks:: Masks are required at all times when inside the theatre.

Vaccination Passports:: All patrons aged 12+ are required to show proof of vaccination. To meet the legal requirements of the PHO, staff at the theatre will ask to see proof of vaccination and one piece of valid government-issued photo identification for all ticket holders in your party. Patrons can show their BC Vaccine Card digitally, or an out of province/country proof of vaccination. Note, photo ID is only required for patrons aged 19+.

Arrival at the venue:: You may arrive 15-30 mis in advance of showtime. When you arrive at the Intrepid Studio, please be patient, and a staff member will check the vaccine card and photo ID for each ticket holder before you enter the theatre. Be prepared by having your BC Vaccine Card QR code ready to display (or any proof of vaccination if from out of Province) along with your ID before proceeding to the box office tent.

Refunds:: If you are not feeling well or have any symptoms, please stay home to help keep everyone safe. We are able to discuss refunds on a case by case basis due to health reasons.
