The Peony Lantern | 牡丹燈籠The Yokohama Theatre Group
This performance will be available to watch on-demand anytime between noon on September 10th and midnight on September 16th.
It’s 1912. A traveller arrives at the port of Yokohama, alone and unprepared: unprepared both for life in a very different culture and for falling in love with a very singular woman. But something strange is going on, a secret hangs in the air like a lantern, and as the festival of O-bon approaches, the boundaries between life and death are thin. Can the traveller discover what’s happening before it’s too late?
“The Peony Lantern” is a modern, multimedia retelling of a classic ghost story that was popularized in the west in Lafcadio Hearn‘s 1899 book, “In Ghostly Japan”.
